Have you taken a peek at the gold price recently? It’s increased by more than 21% since January 2025 and continues to skyrocket.

Why? The short answer: When the world feels chaotic (like right now), people and governments turn to gold. It’s tangible, holds value, and can be traded across borders. The more demand there is globally, the higher the price per gram.

What does that mean for you? It means all those bits of broken gold jewellery, single earrings, unmatched butterflies, and “ugly gold sisters” hiding at the back of your drawer… are now worth more than ever!

So… What Are Your Options?

  • Gold with sentimental value (old wedding ring, a bangle from gran):
We can melt the actual metal and use it to make your new piece. BUT first… we’ll need to test it and chat through your options. Every piece is different, and I’ll make sure you know exactly what’s possible.
  • If it’s old gold you’re happy to part with:
We send it to a registered refinery (we hold a gold licence because the gold industry in South Africa is highly regulated).

The refinery will remove all impurities and turn it into 24kt pure gold. They then pay us for the pure gold, and we use that value to buy fresh gold to make your new bling.

Creating Something New

A sparkle-loving sea-queen came to me with a little treasure chest of inherited jewels from her mother-in-law. Yellow gold wasn’t quite her vibe, so we swapped it for dreamy platinum instead. With a sprinkle of mermaid magic, we transformed everything into pieces she’ll actually wear and truly adore.

A Quick Note on Gold Value:

New gold (that’s never been worked with or soldered): Worth more per gram.

Old gold (from jewellery): Needs refining, which slightly reduces its value because of impurities.

BUT… in both cases, you’re still making use of what you have and putting its value towards something fin-tastic and new.

Fun Fact:

99% of the gold used in the South African jewellery industry is reclaimed and recycled gold!

We only buy from suppliers who are certified with the International Responsible Jewellery Council and the Responsible Minerals Initiative, so you can feel good about every gram.

Feeling Overwhelmed?

Don’t stress! I’ll make the whole process easy, fun, and totally mermaid-approved.
