Our Metals
Our jewellery is made from sterling silver, gold-plated sterling silver, 9ct and 18ct gold, and platinum.
Sterling silver in South Africa is made from a 92.5% silver-7.5% copper alloy. The exact alloy can vary slightly between refineries.
A Little Oxidation Is Normal
Metals naturally develop a patina or oxidise over time due to exposure to oxygen, perfumes, chemicals and the natural acidity of your skin.
Some people have more acidic skin than others, so you may notice one piece oxidising faster than another. Different metal alloys react differently.
Keep Your Silver Shiny
Silver can also develop a darker patina when it isn't worn regularly. This is completely natural and easily removed with the little blue polishing cloth included in your parcel.
A gentle polish and she'll be sparkling again!
Keep Your Gemstones Gleaming
If your gemstones look a little dull, it's usually just a buildup of everyday dirt, creams, and oils.
Use an old, soft toothbrush with lukewarm water and a tiny drop of Handy Andy cream to gently clean around and behind the stones. Rinse carefully with clean water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
A Note About Gold Plating
Gold plating isn't permanent. It's a thin layer of gold applied over sterling silver and will naturally wear over time.
How quickly this happens depends on how often you wear your piece and its exposure to things like chlorine, detergents, perfumes and everyday wear.
Once the plating wears away, the silver underneath will begin to show. Don't panic! Your piece can be replated when it needs a little refresh.
Please be careful when using the cleaning cloth not to rub it on plated jewellery, as it can remove the plating.
Give Your Rings Their Own Space
Give each of your beauties its own little spot when you're not wearing it.
Don’t store gemstone rings next to one another. Different gemstones have different levels of hardness and can scratch each other.
Extra Love for Delicate Gems
Please NEVER use just any jewellery cleaners or harsh cleaning products on pearls, opals or emeralds. These precious beauties need a much gentler touch.
